John Green (1977 – present)

Who? – John Green was on Time magazine’s 2014 list of most influential people in the world. He and his brother, Hank Green, are the creators of an incredibly successful Youtube channel (Vlogbrothers), as well as the educational channel Crash Course. The Green brothers have very dedicated fans called Nerdfighters, who have formed communities on and off the internet all over the world. John Green has also hosted numerous videos dedicated to trivia and curiosities for Mental Floss.
What? – Green is the author of a number of young adult novels that feature teenage protagonists who try to make sense of the confusing and seemingly chaotic world they live in. His work often focuses on the search for meaning and purpose as well as the desire for love and relationships. Green’s sense of humour shines through in his writing as well as his own desire to find answers to the big questions in life. His style is philosophical yet accessible, and optimistic about life and humanity despite the loss and grief the characters experience.
